I am the mother of an extremely shy 14 yr old. What I need to know is, is this board appropriate for children?her shyness comes mainly because of low-self esteem and living on a street full of judgemental ppl.she also has a learning disability, and loves to work w/children,as she is a big girl(tall)ppl wonder why she likes small children....their minds make me sick as she has taught some kids in school to read and just generally loves caring for kids...however everyone avoids her as if she is truly disturbed. she has a great personality loves animals is VERY open minded on such things as homosexuality etc....and very intolerant of such things as racism, animal abuse,or any type of violence or homelessness.however....believe it or not this makes her very different from most 14 yr olds as she will not follow a crowd. it would be great if this were a place she could speak and be accepted.please give me some feedback?

she sounds like an amazing person. the question of this board being appropriate for children is difficult to answer, since different parents consider different things appropriate for their children, but this board is a place where anyone that faces shyness can come and vent without worrying about what others will think. at least, that's how i feel.

I can only echo what Moogle has just said. There are some great people on these boards, many of us going through (or have gone through) similar things. I know there are some kids of a similar age to your daughter and I know she will be made very welcome. Talking things out with other people is a great confidence builder.
P.S. I am just about to open a few new cathegories: one of those for children.

It's people like you who ruin this board with your judgemental statements.

Yeah, "different people have different opinions on things" seems about as non-judgemental as a person can get.
