hi all, i've been at uni for a few weeks now and i still have no friends!!! I'm so lonely! I really have tried hard to meet people, joined 4 clubs and regularly attend them all yet i just cant seem to pal up with anyone! Theres a guy on my course who tried to make conversation with me and has tried to be a friend but he's given up on me-i'm just so shy i cant smile let alone talk. It's so hard. I think he thinks i dont like him! heres a long shot but anyone reading this from heriot watt?!!! i need a buddy!!

Hi there Mind
I'm in a similar situation to you, I've just started Uni (not Heriot Wat I'm afriad) this year and I'm very shy too. I understand where you're coming from, it is very hard to make new friends. Try to persevere though, you will find people who you 'click' with eventually. I know it sometimes feels like this will never happen, but it will. That guy who talks to you on your course probably understands that you're shy, it seems like he likes you, so try not to be scared to talk to him. Sorry, I'm probably not much help to you, but good luck, and keep us posted to how you're doing

go out and get drunk with them all, get into a fight and have a kebab - easy way to make friends!

I dont drink! I did actually go to a halloween party at the weekend though, but for the whole night all i did was sit in the corner not talking or looking at anyone. I felt stoopid-and looked stoopid in my costume. I'm never going to a party ever ever ever again!

hey Mind
just wondering are you in Halls or what?? what course are you doin??
my advice would just be to hang in there, it can take a while to find someone that you really get on with, someone that youcan be yourself with, but it'll come with time.
if your in halls try and ivite your neighbours to go to the cinema or the union or whatever, or do the same with people on your course??
just keep trying and be yourself

Yeh, im in halls. I know everyones faces on my floor, but when i meet one of them it's never more than a quick nod and a smile. Everyones got a buddy now except me! Suggesting a trip to the cinema is a great idea, but having to go up to someone and mention it is the whole problem!! ...Maybe i could leave a note in the lounge or kitchen for people to read....
thanks x
