and manfully asked her out. She seems, at first assessment, every bit the shy and creative person I am. We are going out with a friend of mine Friday evening. Any ideas? I really like her, and would hope to make a good impression...

Well done John. This may sound like cliche time but just be yourself. A practicle tip I've used before dates is to make a list of a dozen or so topics to talk about. Pick things that you are comfortable with like music and the wether. Use them in times of need. Another tip: this is something I am good at, listen carefully to what she says. Show an interest in her and a lot will naturallly fall into place.

Always remember that she is as shy as you are when it comes to dating! Shy person + shy person = comfortable situation And I agree with Shane, keep a list of topics ready (you can't go wrong with music). If you're feeling brave, tell her how nice she looks. A sincerely placed "You look nice" can do much to charm a lady. But It's ok if you don't feel comfortable saying these kind of things around your friend..I remember when I did double dates I was really shy around my date because I was with my friends. Good luck
