It worked out for Apu on the Simpsons. 8 kids? Sounds delightful.. And his wife had them all at once too! ;D "Don't worry. Our kids will live on love"

We spoke of arranged marriages in my Anthropology classes in college. I remember the professors mentioning one reason for their success in some cultures is because the two people usually work harder at maintaining their marriage so they don't shame and disappoint their families. I agree; I think arranged marriages work out because the wife and husband work harder at maintaining their relationship. I think they do this because their own parents probably came from arranged marriages too, and so respect the tradition more. I have heard the same also and I agree with what was already said above ^^^. In some cultures/Religions arranged marriages are more common place so that option is always open. Also I think arranged marriages are less stressful on the people in them because they don't have the added pressures of finding a mate and having kids etc.

But seriously, there are times I envy cultures with arranged marriages. Sounds like it would cut a lot of the hassle out of life. On the other hand, I'm sure there is some concern about who you may be arranged to be married to. Personally, I think I'm better off having the opportunity to choose a mate. But, I'm a hopless romantic...

Or maybe have my Dad find a partner for me by asking one of his friends about their sons (like in the Olde days). But then there's always a risk that you won't get on with that person at all. I suppose i'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that a good guy will come my way soon (hint.. hint..).

Except the only thing I would worry about is if I was not attracted to the person or if we didn't get along.

arranged marriages seem to be accompanied by alot of not so pleasant stuff, like family pressure to uphold the honor of the family name blah blah blah...no thanks.

I've been locked in her garden shed for the last 3 years. I only communicate on these forums through awesome telekinetic typing powers on her computer when I know she's out buying torture equipment...

I upgraded you to the luxury suite because the box wasn't good enough for you. You're given water, bread, a candle and a bucket in that shed. What more do you want?? If you continue to be so picky, i'll add another bolt to the door. Your choice... ;D

I'd be more afraid of the other person not liking me... Yeah, but the beauty of marriage is they're trapped. I'm kidding... sort of... Yeah....but, that can also bad. I would hate to have an unfaithful partner. I think that's my worst fear next to being lonely for the rest of my life.....getting married, ending up with the guy despising me/thinking I'm ugly or unfit as a wife and running out on me. I don't want to change the subject.....but you know how people on tv make those 'pacts' with a female or male friend...."If we're 40 and not married yet, let's get married." Do people actually do that? lol
