Hi guys, my name is Scotty, I'm 35 and shy. I'm a dreamer. I spend my nights pretending that I'm in the greatest rock and role band of all time: The Unknown Angels.
The Unknown Angels are a figment of my imagination. I have made dozens of compilation tapes and play them over and over, pretending to be in the band.
The last concert we did went live to every part of the globe. Man we are that damn good!
Should a 35 year old man still behave like this?

Wow, that is one cool dream you have there Scotty!
A lot of people, when describing someone in one word, have said that I'm a 'dreamer' (other than 'quiet', 'shy', the usual). I must admit I've imagined stuff like that from time to time, usually when I've felt a bit low.
I did it all the time when I was younger tho, usually involving me being a superstar soccer player, scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final, that sort of thing.
I honestly think there's nothing wrong with dreaming, it shows you have an active imagination. And that's definitely a good thing to have when there's so many people working jobs they hate. It's good to have some kind of release.
Rock on!

Urban is right. We all need a bit of escapism, especially when we're going through a bad time in the real world.

Very true. I'm always daydreaming.
Maybe you should join a band though! Make it a reality.

I can spend hours trying to go to sleep because I "dreaming" about myself in different situations. I think that it's completly normal. I can bet you that every celebrity has done it before they were famous.

ok, we've established that daydreaming about fame is normal, but what about daydreaming about a practical future? is that weird?

It is normal but it is not okay, especially if it is excessive. I am an excessive fantasizer. I quess I am addicted to it. I usually fantasize that I am this beautiful, confident person who can talk to anybody about anything and everything and not the shy person that I am. I know that I get a "high" from all this fantasizing. I have tried to kick this habit and I can go for a few months without fantasizing until I get really depressed (usually after a social disaster), and then I need something to take away the pain. Right now I have relapsed and I keep promising myself that "tomorrow" I will stop fantasizing but it is just so hard with all the emptiness in my life.

ok, we've established that daydreaming about fame is normal, but what about daydreaming about a practical future? is that weird? I don't think so. I "dream" about practical things also. I just need to get off my a$$ and get some of these things done, or at least give them a try. I could see it being harmful in the future, if you had lived your entire life and still had a list of things that you had "dreamed" about doing but, never gave them a try.
