there is one person that, whenever i was around her, made my shyness disappear. i think it was because she was so loud and happy and bouncy that it rubbed off on me and i found myself not afraid to stand out a little...or even a lot. when i was around her i could be loud or silly or bouncy myself. is there anyone that does this to you?

Yes, my friend Eleanor is SO comical, I'm always laughing around her. Honestly, she can make the most mundane of things amusing. And somehow she just makes me forget about anything else, and I feel almost completely at ease if she's in the room, whoever else is there. I think I'm as comfortable with her as with my little brother (I'm not really shy around my family at all) ...We rip the piss out of each other endlessly.

That is what me and my wife were like. Both of us were pretty quiet on our own but together we just clicked.

I can't remember being as comfortable or close to anyone as my ex-girlfriend. We shared similar attitudes, and we could talk about anything together, and she said she felt equally at ease with me, more so than with anyone else.

She's been the only person in my adult life who I've felt completely comfortable with (with the exception of my mother), and more so than with any friends.

There's this guy I work with. He's about my parents' age, and he's a real nut! For the first year I was here he barely acknowledged my existence. Then the boss moved him into my office. Almost immediately, we clicked to the point where hardly a day went by when I wasn't laughing hysterically at his twisted sense of humor or shooting the breeze about some offbeat subject matter. He works in another department now, and will be retiring soon, but I consider my continued interactions with him a turning point in my battle against shyness.

There was one girl that I went out with who put me COMPLETELY at ease. Even just talking to her on the phone.

Looking back on the past few years, I can think of two girls ( both about my age) who I could actually talk to and be normal friends with. It felt SO cool! Maybe it was because I met them both in therapy groups, and they had even more problems than I do. It created a kind of mutual understanding. Sadly, the groups ended and I never saw them again. They both lived pretty far away from me. I exchanged addresses with one of them, but the long distance relationship just wasn't the same, and it eventually faded away. Even so, I would LOVE to find someone like that again.
