I can't believe I've just done what I've done! I walked out halfway through my last exam. I just panicked because I couldn't answer the questions. It was a very important exam. I'm the star pupil of my year. My teacher ran out after me and she has tried to put in a note with my paper saying that I was sick but it won't help. I don't know what to do. I've messed up my life.

I'm sorry to hear about your exam. I've had that feeling as well of an almost blind panic when you realise that you don't know the answers to the questions or that you do have covered those topics but you revision has let you down. Lucky enough, for me, I didn't walk out but I had a friend who did. He was the opposite of me. He was cocky and confident and yet he turned yellow and walked out. It can happen to anybody. It might not offer any consolation at the minute, but it will make you stronger in the long run. Keep working away.

I haven't walked out of an exam, but I've sat there and realised I couldn't remember a damn thing that I'd revised for a Geography exam. I sat there in a cold sweat, couldn't concentrate, but I couldn't get up and walk out the the exam room for fear of everyone looking at me. It sounds pathetic now but the thought of actually messing up an exam horrified me. I suppose I was regarded as a bright student as I was predicted A's for all of my A-levels. Anyway, I failed this exam miserably and I was distraught. My teachers couldn't understand why I'd failed and I couldn't explain what had happened to me. Looking back I think I just put way too much pressure on myself and I just blanked out. But I learnt a lot about myself from the experience, tho I didn't think I would at the time.
Exams are definitely not the be all and end all of life. Is it an option to retake the exam at some point? That's what I did, but try not to worry too much. One exam can't stop you from achieving what you want to achieve if you've got the brains and the willpower. It may not seem like that now, but I'm living proof of it believe me, and I'm guessing there's lots of other people in the same boat around exam times.

I absolutely hated taking exams full stop - no matter what subject. I always did far better in classes werem coursework was the mainstay of the marks. I'm just one of those people who never do themselves justice under intense pressure.
