FROM "HOTLINES" TO "E-MAILS" - HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED IN 30 years' time lol!
I remember when I was a teen that what some of us would do if we wanted to meet people, especially those of the opposite sex.
We used to go on the phone and dial a number that didn't work, where one would get an operator saying, "please check the number and dial again" etc. and in between her saying this every few seconds, we'd go on and shout really loud, because it was hard to hear everyone, and give out telephone numbers to call each other. Those were the days! lol! Just jokin' hardehar!

Do you remember when "party lines" were phone lines that you shared with your neighbors? If a neighbor was on the phone you had to wait for them to finish their call before using the phone. It was especially annoying when someone left their phone off the hook. No one could make or receive calls. Also anyone could listen in on your conversation. You could pay extra for a private line, but in those days the phone company was a monopoly and already getting enough of your money. (For years people actually rented their phones.)

Hi samblank!
;DYes, I do remember the party lines! What a bugger they were, eh?
Later we got a private line.
Yeah, I know what you mean about people listening in: I had a boyfriend whose parents had a party line and we'd go on and talk; and he could tell when they picked up and were listening to our conversation. He'd get awful frustrated and tell them to wait their turn, etc.

I guess I'm too young to have experience party lines.
But I do still use an old rotary phone that my grandparents had. It can't be used for touch tone, and I don't think they sell tone dialers anymore because of phreakers.

We have an old green rotary phone too. It's the only phone in the house that works when the electricity goes out. So that's why keep it.

Wow, I wish I had a green rotary phone.
Mine is just brown. I hate talking to people on the phone, but I love dialing numbers on it.
