For a shy person, do you think a small college or a large university is better?
Discuss. ^^
Obviously, one can be shy anywhere, but . . .

Discuss. ^^ Obviously, one can be shy anywhere, but . . . personally, i would say a smaller school would be better. of course, i'm assuming you would want to socialize to some degree, or work on it. if you really just prefer to get completely lost in a crowd and have no one notice you at all, a larger school is better. but i find those kinds of situations completely alienating myself. i think it's a matter of personal inclinations. for me, large crowds of people are pretty damn scary.

A large school has a greater variety of people, and if you screw up with one group you can always start over with a new one and not worry about gossip getting around to everyone. I had a good experience at a large college, but I can see how you could get lost in the crowd too. Its important to live on the campus and get involved right away.

definitely large school then you are less dependant on particular people, there is always opportunity to meet new ones. It might seem to be less comfortable for a shy person but there is more opportunity for growth.

I go to a medium size school (~15,000 students) and am getting ready to transfer to Ohio State University, the second-largest school in the country.
I'm looking forward to OSU, because there are more opportunities to get involved and socialize there.

I have experienced both as I attended an extremely small school my freshmen year then transferred to the much larger state school I am attending now. I found it easier to form real lasting friendships at the smaller school. Gossip and cliques were more of a problem though. People quickly formed thier select group of friends and stuck to them which made it hard to meet new people after awhile. On the other hand at the bigger school you are gonna meet a lot more people alhough at least in my case these have been more like aquaitances rather than friends because it such a big school its harder to keep in contact. You might have soomeone in your class one semester than never see them again

A larger school doesn't push me to socialise too much. It's so easy and convenient to hide in the crowd and stay anonymous then everyone except you forms a ring of friends and you're screwed ... if I could choose again, I'd go to as small one as possible.
