I'm a male, 18, and have managed to put off getting a job because of my fear social anxiety untill now, I have been hired by a store, and will be starting work next week. I'm scared. I'm going to have to be around strangers, they're going to asume i'm normal and probably want to start a conversation with me, I feel like I should be studying something to prepare for this.

I worked in a grocery store for about five years or so. I sidestepped the SA by trying to be interesting and nice to people, customers and employees both. If you're nice to customers, they will make it easy for you. If you're nice to co-workers, they'll watch your back. Try to be helpful to others in the store, and you'll get gratitude and joy in return. Hell, i'm betting that after a few days in that store, you won't feel bad at all. If you need to avoid eye contact with people, that's fine. Keep your eyes on you work, and talk to people on the side. Remember; having a job is not like high school. People will be at least a little more professional.

First off, congrats on getting a job! The first big step is definitely pushing yourself into it. You've at least accomplished that.
I know what you mean, though. I've definitely put off getting a job as a result of my SA and it's for the same reasons you are mentioning that you are scared of. I hide by babysitting for my family.
I really can't give any good advice, since I haven't had a job like that yet. But, maybe you can go into a store and just kind of observe how they interact with customers and learn from that. With the customers, the conversations should be pretty brief, so maybe that shouldn't be as bad. That probably doesn't help, though, since anyone could just say to any SA person, "Just observe others and learn how to converse with others by seeing how they do it."
So, okay...sorry I'm no help at all. But, good luck with the job! I hope it works out for you.

Just don't be dismayed by the amount of tax taken out of the pay check.

Just don't be dismayed by the amount of tax taken out of the pay check. What's the average % they take out? And thanks all for the advice, i'll try and keep that in mind. Focus on work.
