I tried Hypnotherapy before and it really didn't work for me. I think it's wierd. Everything you try you think is going to be this miracle cure and then nothing works. I think Hypnotherapy works for certain people and i'm not one of those. Supposedly it's less effective on shy people as they tend to be to introverted, alert and aware, due to nerves.

I've tried hypnotherapy, not sure if he was by a reputatble therapist but I didn't really feel like I was in a trancelike state and didn't feel any changes either. I agree with thinking that there some miracle cure out there but in the end I guess it's really up to ourselves to push ourselves to overcome this problem. Although I have comtemplated trying hypnotherapy once again, just need to find someone who has better credentials. I've read articles on hypnosis and it seems like something that is medically accepted so maybe I'll give it one more try. Let me know if you know of a hypnotherapist that is good.

don't feel bad I tried it to and it didn't work...but I must admit it was quite relaxing but the next day I was still the same shy person. I spent like a hundred and some dollars what a waste!!!

systematic desensitization would have been better unless your shyness is not anxiety related morso that its just a lack of intrest or lack of having something to say. also with systematic desensitization you would have to construct an anxiety hierarchy which is hard to do given that shyness occurs with diferent people and situations

I think if you find a Skillful Hypnotherapist, this can be effective for shyness. I have tried alot of Tapes and some CD's with hypnosis, but haven't been helped by these. But I think instead of doing tapes or CD's, it's more effective for you to do self hypnosis on yourself instead. Afterall, all hypnosis is self hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy has been so hyped up over the years that people expect magical results. Like has been pointed out already, it has different effects on different people, for one thing, but for most people I don't think it has any dramatic effects.
I went to a professional hypnotherapist once and I did not see all that much difference between that and self hypnosis. He even used a cassette tape to get me under. So rather than sign up for more sessions, I simply bought one of their tapes and left it at that!
The best use of hypnosis is self-hypnosis in conjunction with visualization and positive mental imagery, in my opinion.
