Thanks for the information.I have had it for about 4years now.I have tried cbt though I did give it up.The hospital has never given advice on what can contribue to the problem. I have been going to my sons school each day and have been doing that for a month now.I wanted to try to just help myself, its easier than having cbt through a nurse. thanks again kathy ;D

Agoraphobia is fear of crowds, right? Sounds Greek, but i'm not sure. Well, i sure am afraid of large crowds. I'd like to go see the Star Wars movie, but the long lines and huge crowds make me scared. Small groups of people i can handle. But large crowds no. By the way, welcome Kathy!!

Agoraphobia is fear of open spaces i suppose the best way to explain it is S.A overload, and yeah it does originate from the greek meaning marketplace. It's not related to SA.

Yes i am aware of that Richie as i said i'm trying to work out the best way of explaining it and S.A overload is the only thing i could think of that people would have experienced. I think you explained it best by saying "Agoraphobia is fear of open spaces."

Well, no, it is not a fear of open spaces. From Psych Central: "Agoraphobia is characterized by anxiety about being in places or situations from which escape might be difficult (or embarrassing) or in which help may not be available in the event of having an unexpected or situationally predisposed Panic Attack or panic-like symptoms. Agoraphobic fears typically involve characteristic clusters of situations that include being outside the home alone; being in a crowd or standing in a line; being on a bridge; and traveling in a bus, train, or automobile." psychcentral.com/disorders/sx29.htmWhen I was having panic attacks I would get them in the middle of class, driving down the highway, on the train, walking down the street. Luckily I never got full blown agoraphobia, but the panic attacks were horrible and I had to do alot to overcome them. I haven't had a serious one for over five years now and I never want to go back there.
