Didn't know where to put this. I'm wondering when I am supposed to start menopause? My sister is 49 and she hasn't started it yet. My mother was 55 when she has a hysterectomy and hadn't started it before then. Yeah I was chatting my my sister today and it seems that my other sister is preggo again at the age of 42.

Obviously, i don't have the answer to that question The only think i know about menopause is that my parents are constantly fighting over the temperature in the house.. My mom is always too hot (hot flashes?) and my dad is always complaining of being too cold. It's pretty funny listening to my dad grumble about it.. In the winter he sits on the couch with a space heater in front of him

your dad should snuggle up to his hot wife! she could warm him up. in school they're teaching us these days that average age of menopause is over 50, but often starts anytime after 40. the range of age varies all the way from teenage to 60+. in men andropause usually starts at about 40 and hormone levels gradually decline over their remaining life. people in poor health can experience declining hormone levels at an earlier age.

Ms. Pnats, Hello there! There is a book that is a very good source of info re: this subject. It's called " The Wisdom of Menopause" by Christianne Northrup. She was on Oprah Winfrey a few years ago, and I happened to be watching the program that day (I don't always). She said there was a time before the actual Menopause called "Perimenopause" which can occur in women starting in their 30s until the actual menopause which is supposed to be official 1 year after the final menstral period. So, many years before Menopause (while we are still having monthly periods) we women can and do go through the various symptoms of menopause, such as (of course): hot flashes (which I myself have had for 2 years - I'm 44), night sweats, and other discomforts. This lady is very knowledgeable about Menopause, and I'm sure you could probably procure the book at the public library (we have it here at the library where I'm posting on computer now, and I have read it myself). (My mother went through her "change of life" in her late 40s, early 50s - in 1979, she was 47 and she had hot flashes, and still had them for a few years until sometime in her 50s.) I found these websites here which might help as well: www.menopause.comallaboutmenopause.orgHope this helps Take care! AlwaysAlone

My mother's reading some book "Could I be peri-menopausal?". It talks about getting menopausal symptoms in your early 40's. She's had some weird thing done that's stopped her periods, but it wasn't a hysterectomy.
