This is a song that Tony Bennett and Bill Evans did, which helped me get through a black spot just before Christmas:
WHEN LONELY FEELINGS CHILL THE MEADOWS OF YOUR MIND,
JUST THINK IF WINTER COMES, CAN SPRING BE FAR BEHIND?
BENEATH THE DEEPEST SNOWS, THE SECRET OF A ROSE
IS MERELY THAT IT KNOWS YOU MUST BELIEVE IN SPRING!
JUST AS A TREE IS SURE ITS LEAVES WILL REAPPEAR,
IT KNOWS ITS EMPTINESS IS JUST A TIME OF YEAR,
THE FROZEN MOUNTAIN DREAMS OF APRIL'S MELTING STREAMS,
HOW CRYSTAL CLEAR IT SEEMS, YOU MUST BELIEVE IN SPRING!
YOU MUST BELIEVE IN LOVE AND TRUST IT'S ON ITS WAY,
JUST AS THE SLEEPING ROSE AWAITS THE KISS OF MAY,
SO IN A WORLD OF SNOW, OF THINGS THAT COME AND GO,
WHERE WHAT YOU THINK YOU KNOW, YOU CAN'T BE CERTAIN OF,
YOU MUST BELIEVE IN SPRING AND LOVE.
(Sorry about the caps, it was like that on the website I pasted it from)

well i don't have any positive music in my life yet i think..um yea it's kinda complicated. i just recently started to download and lisen all kinds of music and shit (oh that reminds me of the This is the new shit by Mary..ops Marlyn Manson) i remember moby having some songs that i like... i should check it out.--yea. whatever I downloaded some moby recently..kind of "chill-out" (for want of a better word) music. I like his (their?) sound. Back on the topic, I listen to most types of music there is and usually the mood of the song releates to the mood I am in, though depressed songs usually dont do much to help the depressed state, so I guess I should probably try listening to postive stuff a bit more...meh..

I like to listen to Limahl's Neverending Story, though sometimes (when I am feeling reeaaally down) it sounds as 'neverending suffering' in my mind. I also love Blondie's Maria.

In recent times my music tastes have mellowed, in other words I am becoming a bit of an old man. I still love rock (Zeppelin/acdc) but in the last year I have discovered several key albums that I find really beautiful to listen to. "Kind of blue" by Miles Davis is the first..I would have laughed at the idea of being interested in jazz about ten years ago but this guy was a true genius. This album (and a live one entitled "My funny Valentine") is nothing short of bliss to the ear and soul.
The second cool thing I discovered was "A rush of blood to the head" by Coldplay. Again, it is stratospheric , uplifting and awe inspiring. Finally, anything by Bob Marley, especially Exodus. Pure Joy.

Ah, the Neverending Story Jarous.. I used to like it a lot. Matchbox 20 sings a song called "Unwell". It's about the singer dealing with feeling like people are talking about him. I think it's a good song. I never even listened to Matchbox 20, until someone I know told about them. The song fits really well.. "But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell I know right now you can't tell But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see.. ..A different side of me.." Monty Python's The Bright Side of Life? Makes me laugh. Whenever I heard that song it got that dumb grin on my face and i just felt like whisteling. Other songs I found fitting to feeling sucky: "Wouldn't it be good" of Nik Kershaw (a oldie, but I still love it) "I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it You got it easy, you don't know when you've got it good. It's getting harder, just keeping life and soul together I'm sick of fighting, even though I know I should. The cold is biting, through each and every nerve and fibre, My broken spirit is frozen to the core. Don't wanna be here no more.." And "Crucify" from Tori Amos "Every finger in the room is pointing at me I wanna spit in their faces Then I get afraid what that could bring I got a bowling ball in my stomach I got a desert in my mouth Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now" There are a bunch of other songs I know about feeling down. Anyway. Postive songs. Hmm (I tend to like songs that I feel more connected with and are not frequent heard). "Learning To Breathe" by Switchfoot I liked too. But it is a Christian song, so the "you" in the song they mean God. "Hello, good morning, how you do? What makes your risin' sun so new? I could use a fresh beginning too All of my regrets are nothing new So this is a way, that I say I need You.." "Hold On" from Wilson Phillips is positive. It does start out negative, but it's about getting up and get your act together. "I know this pain Why do lock yourself up in these chains? No one Can change your life except for you Don't ever let anyone step all over you Just open your heart and your mind Is it really fair to feel this way inside?" "Don't dream it's over" by Crowded House and covered by another group is positive too. "Hey now, hey now Don't dream it's over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they won't win" This post is getting too long. I'll stop with my lyrics and songs

I don't know whether you would consider it positive, but I also love Espen Lind's When Susannah Cries.
When Susannah cries She cries a rainstorm She cries a river ...
It's not particularly well known around here. I hope you at least know it.
Lind probably intended it to be sad, I find it strangely comforting though. I can't say why. Is it that others hurt too?

Hmm. It is a sad song, but I do not feel it is very comforting or depressing.. I think that some sad songs feel comforting because it feels indeed like there are others who know sadness too and that it feels less alone and understand. Or it is some kind of sadomasochism that we like the idea of others in pain and to make ourself comfy in self pity..? Ok. This was supposed to be positive Ghost! *Tsk's self * Call me mad, but the song "Wishing On A Star" by Rose Royce, covered by other artists too (a oldie) I find a little sad...but also somewhat uplifting. I dunno... Life is good" from Espen Lind is more positive "When I have to sleep alone When I'm far away from home When I've lost the will to try When I fear I'm won't get by When the night is long and I can't see She comes to me..." "She says 'Life la la la la la la la la Life is good, baby Oh life la la la la la la la la You mean so much to me So I don't want to see You breaking down'" Oh, just remembered, again from Nik Kershaw "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". It's upbeat and quirky (like me ) Before the refrains it has a sort of fitting catchphrases: "Good or bad, like it or not It's the only one we've got" (The "one" he means world..perhaps life too) And: "Break your silence if you would Before the sun goes down for good"

I don't think the authors were talking about shyness, but they could have been, and this has become my anthem recently. It's a song covered by Nina Simone (Brits will know it as the Film '04 theme)
And I wish I knew how It would feel to be free I wish that I could break All the chains holding me I wish I could say All the things that I’d like to say Say ’em loud say ’em clear For the whole round world to hear I wish I could share All the love that’s in my heart Remove every doubt It keeps us apart And I wish you could know What it means to be me Then you’d see and agree Every man should be free
I wish I could live
Like I’m longin’ to live I wish I could give What I’m longin’ to give And I wish I could do All the things I’d like to do You know they’ll still miss part of you Yes sir... And I’m way way over due
I wish I could be like a bird up in the sky How sweet it would be If I found out I could fly So long to my song And look down upon ihe sea And I sing because I know I would see you I sing because I know I would see you And I sing because I know I would see you To be free yea

I do find that ironic, sarcastic ... sometimes even a bit morbid stuff ... has a positive effect on me. Ehm, I know not everyone appreciates sarcasm - but isn't it hard not to laugh or at the very least softly chuckle at the ironies of this life? Alanis Morissette's Ironic is a great mood improver, if you asked me of course:
It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take A traffic jam when you're already late A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife It's meeting the man of my dreams And then meeting his beautiful wife And isn't it ironic... don't you think? Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out

"People Hold On" by Lisa Stansfield
Everybody's looking for a meaning Everybody's doing their own thing And nobody's solving the problem Ain't nobody helping each other
Some people give into fear Some people give into hunger Some of us live for the future And some of us wonder
Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone Givin' into hope, and into trust Maybe there's enough for everyone
Chorus: People hold on Don't do yourself wrong People hold on We've got to be strong People hold on
Everybody's getting frustrated Why should we live with this hatered We've all dancin' on a thin line They're makin' out we're having a good time So who's gonna give us the answer Sister and brother
Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone
(Chorus)
People hold on, people hold on to it you know you gotta do it
Givin' into life, givin' into love Maybe there's enough for everyone Givin' into hope, and into trust Maybe there's enough for everyone
(Chorus)

Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love
You see the signs, but you can't read You're runnin' at a different speed Your heart beats in double time Another kiss and you'll be mine, a one track mind
You can't be saved Oblivion is all you crave If there's some left for you You don't mind if you do
Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff, oh yeah It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough You know you're gonna have to face it, you're addicted to love
and also Christina Aguilera's Beatiful
You are beautiful no matter what they say Words won't bring you down

What about Cat Stevens' "Don't Be Shy"? It seems rather apropos for this forum...
(Oh, and if you haven't seen the cult classic Harold and Maude, I very much recommend it!)
Don't be shy just let your feelings roll on by Don't wear fear or nobody will know you're there Just lift your head, and let your feelings out instead And don't be shy, just let your feeling roll on by On by
You know love is better than a song Love is where all of us belong So don't be shy just let your feelings roll on by Don't wear fear or nobody will know you're there You're there
Don't be shy just let your feelings roll on by Don't wear fear or nobody will know you're there Just lift your head, and let your feelings out instead And don't be shy, just let your feeling roll on by On by, on by, on by, on by, etc.

I guess I didn't clarify - that song is featured in Harold and Maude.
The movie's about a introverted, depressed young man (I believe he was 20) that falls in love with a vibrant, extroverted 80 yr old woman. I suppose that might freak some people out, but it's really very good.

Jennifer Lopez's Ain't It Funny? Not only is it an outstanding song, some of the lyrics describe us pretty well:
... But there are facts in our lives We can never change Just tell me that you understand and you feel the same ... Oh, I wish this could be real ... Sometimes I think that a true love can never be I just believe that somehow it wasn't meant for me Life can be cruel in a way that I can't explain And I don't think that I could face it all again ... Emotions I felt Held me back from what my life should be

i listen to superchick - they talk about so many issues in a really upbeat way. they're just so fun to listen to.
visit superchick.net to find out more, the page takes a whuile to load, but this band is GOOD.
Their first cd, Karaoke Superstars, was definitely pop, "Last One Picked" was more rock, and REgeneration is almost like Linkin Park. I don't listen to Regeneration much, though, becasue it's much less uplifting than the other cds of theirs.
