So I had read a lot of times and heard from people that eating healthy or healthier can really help with depression, mood swings and anxiety etc.
So for this reason and the fact I wanted to lose a few lbs I decided to start eating healthy a couple of months ago. And also working out, I used to be extremely athletic and very good at sports (what the fuck happened?! lol)
So a couple of months ago I went to the grocery store and changed my diet COMPLETELY. I threw out all the junk I had, including sugary drinks, sweets, crisps (chips) etc etc. I started eating a lot of fruits and veg which I hadn't done in a long long time, drinking tons of water (I already drank a lot) I started eating and drinking some soy products, eating leaner meat, eating better bread, cutting out fattening or junk filled foods. Cut out cookies etc etc. I bought a bike and started riding again, started to run again etc...
But I don't feel ANY better for it, not one tiny bit! infact I might feel worse. I've been watching my sugar intake, calorie intake and fat intake, I might of lost a bit of weight but I feel no better mentally or emotionally.
So I think that theory goes down the toilet for me!

It makes me feel much better to eat properly and to exercise regularly. Are you eating enough food? How much exercise are you doing? I won't ask you what you weigh. oops I'll ask what your BMI is.

it's ok I'll tell you what I weigh I don't care haha... about 145, i'm 5'6. I gotta say, some of that is boob! I got big ones haha. I could never be 130 or something I don't think. I have an athletic body too.
I do about an hour of cardio 5 days a week and 30mins - 45mins of pilates 4-5 days a week.
I do think I eat enough, because i'm trying to lose weight I went down to about 1500 calories and I do treat myself from time to time. It just hasn't made me feel better.

Have you tried the french fry diet? Eat only french fries, and drink only the lard they were cooked in. The diet you describe might not make much of a difference in depression, but it's really healthy. As for exercise, the endorphins that your body produces should give you a post-workout high. Just don't push yourself so hard that you get cramps or anything more than a little soreness. Weight training is good for minimizing muscle loss while you are losing weight. You might try cutting back to exercising three days a week, with one or more rest days between workouts. You might be overtraining.

I'll finish this when I get home. ;D Ok home! ;D Instead of pilates, I would do weight training 3 days a week full body routine 2 sets of say 10-12 reps to start with. One exercise per body part. Like shoulder press, dumbell kickbacks, arm curls, chest press, squats, dumbell rows, and crunches for abs. Increase your calories to 1800.

As much working out as you do the basic 2000 calorie diet is good enough. I would say as much cardio as you do you might be losing more muscle than actual fat. I would suggest keep doing what you do but cut back on the time like 30-45 mins a day instead of 1 hour. You might not be taking in enough carbs and protein. Do you know how much carbs and protein you have a day? How much water do you drink? If you drink to much you could flush to much of the nutrients you need out of your system.
There is no such thing as over training as long as you balance out your meals workouts and make sure you have the right diet and proper rest. A lot of people over train because they take the workouts more seriously than the other stuff. I would say as much cardio as you do you might be losing more muscle than actual fat. You might want to change things up a little every now and then to kill the bordem.
Have you seen the Total Gym? I was thinking about getting one and working out at home. Looks like a lot of fun.

Yeah, find sticking to a 2000 calorie diet and doing a bit of home-aerobics every night really helps me out a lot in the weight are and when i'm around other people. Generally, however, i feel much better i eat a big meal, with other people around. I've found that i'm very annoying and disagreeable when i've missed a mean and am hungry. I'd like to be able to afford to go to gyms or somethine but i just don't have the time for any of that right now. Plus, i'd feel self-concious and inadequate around all those healthy, good looking people working out. I generally feel good around my own family though. I'm an olympic champion compared to them! And they also give me the impression that it's perfectly normal to be overweight; nearly everyone gains weight as they age, so i don't feel so bad about my own body. I'm 5'6" and 180 lbs. I figure it could be much worse so i don't fret over it so much. Now my height i do fret over . . .

As funny as it may seem I never really fretted over my height. Don't worry about going to gyms, all kinds of different people are there and everyone there pretty much respects the fact that you are just there. To them it shows that you want to take care of yourself. The problem I have is I don't have any motivation to go and I pay 21 dollars a month for my gym.
