I went twice this month so far. Felt good afterward. I didn't talk much, besides my name etc. I went out to see NEW people, didn't make any friends yet.
Go volunteer more, I believe I'll change little by little. You can TOO!

I volunteer for different stuff too! it kinda forces me to meet and talk with new people. also, everyone is working for a common goal. volunteer work is probably the most social thing i do.

I'm thinking of volunteering if my search for a new job continues to be unsuccesful. Working mostly from home with my current job hastn't been helpful for me(money excepted lol) and I need to experience working with people more.

I used to volunteer a lot, but i did it with local charity agencies down here in Texas. They seem a bit too big and organized, and this drove me nuts. Most of my more recent volunteering has been helping out on campus at times for clothing drives and such or at Church where our pastor is getting quite old and feeble and needs help moving around statues at times. Not to mention as a bouncer to keep the drunk bums out of the church on Sundays. ;D

I'm going to have a look around and see if there's anything I can do for 1 day a week. As you say it gets you out of the house.

I'm a volunteerer on a regular basis because I have a passion for helping people and interaction. I'm still quite shy, but I feel like when I'm volunteering, I'm reaching outward bit by bit, and gaining skills that I can use in the real world around me.
Has anyone ever had an experience where volunteering made you feel slightly on nerves? I know sometimes when I volunteer, I tend not to take on the head position first because I am quite shy, so I try to do things that start small and work my way up. There were a few times when I was majorly stressed because I wasn't working behind the scenes and I had to be in front of a large group of people and speaking firsthand, which made me really nervous, but as I came into it, I became a little better off, but still not at the level I wanted to be.

I read this post and went an d volunteered to tutor primary school kids for an hour a week it's helping the children who maybe don't have the money to get a tutor but who need a little bit of help. I liek that idea. Plus i want to teach so it's something good to put down for my application to uni later on.

I used to volunteer at a hospital hoping to meet some people, but I got stuck working in an office filing paperwork. Oh well.
