Some people are saying they have 5+ friends. Isn't that a normal extrovert number for friends? All the friends I've had in my lifetime don't add up to 5. How is it possible to have so many friends when you're shy? When I say I've got 5-6 friends, I'm not refering to people all in the same town. Sad, huh? These are people I talk with on the phone or email regularly but see, maybe, once a year or at special occassions. But if you re-define friends to mean people I see, in person, 2-3 times a week, the number would drop to 2, including my husband.

your married too . dick please show cheeseball the door. just because a person is married doesn't mean they can't be shy. i was married to an extreme extrovert. imagine having to attend many business/social functions having severe social phobia.

i was refering to emotional support with the "she will understand though" I have studied it in abnormal psych seems to be common and there are lots of options to help with it. It isnt an issue yet but before I get married if I do, then i will adress it . I may be a therapist myself by that time anyways. spg it probably wouldn't even be a real issue. You are 19 years old. It is common thing for young guys or not having had sex for awhile for things to happen quickly. The more you do it, it will get better.

Are you living with your parents/grandparents? Parents ... unemployed? Yes, but I did have a job a few weeks ago ... married? No ... children? No ... an escapee from a mental institution? No ... a troll living under a bridge? No
Are you living in a town, or an unincorporated rural area? Town/Small city
Favorite movie?Star Wars
What is the nature of your shyness? ... is it preventing you from achieving your goals in life? I get nervous when speaking. I'm unsure of how to approach girls in any way other than just being friends. I have trouble really getting to know people. I lose my confidence pretty easily if I feel myself slip socially ... what ARE your goals in life (if any)? Pursue something in the business field after college
What is the nature of your relationship with your parents? Have your parents been able to maintain the viability of their relationship? If they have separated/divorced, how old were you when it happened? ... and did it have a major impact on your own life? I get along great with my parents.
Did you have a strict upbringing? ... are your parents over-protective?Somewhat strict. I mean, my parents weren't wusses they punished me when I got out of line. My parents weren't over protective because I was so shy in HS they didn't have to be.
Any siblings?Older sibling
How many friends do you have? ... any of them that you would consider "close?" I'd consider a few to be pretty close. I have a lot of acquantences in college that I could stand to get to know better
Have you ever been in an intimate relationship? ... still a virgin? No, never been in an intimate relationship
[Were you]/[are you] a target for bullies in school? ... held up for ridicule?I was bullied quite a bit in middle school, probably why I became so socially inept. I was bullied a little my freshman year of HS too.
Are you over-weight? ... under-weight? ... physically disfigured? ... handicapped? ... speech impediment? ... poor eyesight (requiring thick glasses)?Slightly overweight I guess.
Do you have a physical illness/condition that is limiting your life? No.

your married too . dick please show cheeseball the door. just because a person is married doesn't mean they can't be shy. My husband's much more shy than I am. And he works nights = enabling his shyness.

Another newbie delurks - welcome to the group. thanks. I'm studying film and psychology. Well, we just moved into a very small and religious town in which everyone already knows each other. Everyone else on our block gets together for cookouts, and we don't associate with them at all. My mom is rather rude to our neighbors as well, but that's just how she is. I'm not entirely sure. I'd love to be a documentarian. Feel rejected? I felt like my friends didn't care, because no one even asked if I was doing okay. I started withdrawing because I just felt depressed and the teasing I went through at school only made it worse. My best friend started hanging out with the almost-"A" group, so he made it obvious I was no longer needed. He told me to go away, so I did. No, my mom is really strong emotionally. When I was younger, she chased a burglar out of the house in her house coat, screaming at the top of her lungs, unarmed. No, he makes friends very easily. He has tons. Not much. Nothing, really, anymore. Listen to music, watch movies, I occassionally will play my drum set (rarely now), or draw. All the time. Spit on me, knock me to the ground, put signs on my back, scream horrible comments at me, make fun of me, play "jokes" on me, throw things at me; several times I ended up with big knots and bruises on my skin.
