Well,
I have a few problems that are either inextricable from my shyness or irritants that worsen my shyness. To dive in:
I have been diagnosed with Schizoaffective-bipolar type. For those unfamiliar with the illness, I will offer my understanding: an admixture of Schizophrenic and manic-depressive features. I have had lifelong struggles with gravelike depressions, suicide attempts, wildly delusional and paranoid thinking, psychotic breaks, ISOLATION. For now, medicine is keeping my jangled mind together, with the exception of depressions and the persistence of self-loathing. I have yet to realize any of the goals I rather unrealistically set for myself years before. So things shake out.
I am, as indicated, an aspiring writer, a carnivore insofar as books are concerned, unearthing and devouring literature's geniuses. Favorite writers: Anne Sexton, Saul Bellow, Steinbeck (more a high school fascination), Vonnegut, Dostoevsky, Robert Lowell, a few of the Greek and Roman masters, a little John Berryman for those moments during which I need to be reminded that psychosis can be helpful to genius (the drunken lunacy of The Dream Songs, etc).
Central life goal: Climb out of this funk and apply as a transfer student to Kenyon College. Central impediment: a brain as wormholed and useless as the corpse of an alcoholic junkie.
Antyhing else that deserves a word: ask.

;D Hello, Hi, and a big welcome to you, Shypoet. I can relate to some of the things you mentioned. I suffer from depression and sociophobia primarily, but I also have paranoid tendencies. Also some features of obsessive compulsive disorder mixed in. I live in relative isolation as well. Unforuntely not the solitude that I crave as I live in a roominghouse. I wish I lived in my own apartment, but finances prevent that, unfortunately. Just wanted to say Hello and welcome to you and hope you have a good time in here reading and posting! Take care, Alwaysalone
