I'm glad to find this site because I have been coping with shyness for pretty much my entire life. Actually I found this place a while ago and have been lurking.. Anyway I graduated college last Saturday and a few days after moved to a new city, Chicago. It's kind of intimidating because I don't really know anyone here, but that is also one reason why I'm happy to be here because it is a fresh start Anyone else have experience moving to a brand new town?

Welcome to SU Walls!!! Hopefully, we can break them down. I haven't moved to another city since i was 8 years old; we moved out of the ghetto then, and into a more isolated rural neighborhood outside the city limits. I was very young at the time, of course, but i remember it as being easy on me as a kid because the country kids were nicer than the city kids at my former school.

Did you live in Illinois before or are your from another state too? So how did you pick Chicago? I'm moving to another country in a few months. It is very intimidating. Glad to be making a fresh start too.

Glad to be making a fresh start too. No I was living in Minnesota. I picked Chicago because I wanted to be in a huge city and this is the most affordable one in the country. So far I love the city but I still haven't met anyone (though being honest with myself I haven't made much effort )

Hi and welcome to SU. Congrats on graduating from college. I'm afraid I can't offer much advice in regards to moving to a new city as I've lived in the same town all my life, but well done for being brave enough to make such a big step. From my experience, nearly every new situation I have encountered brings with it anxiety, nerves and uncertainty. I can only imagine it's the same with moving to a new city. The best advice I can offer is trying to expose yourself (not in that way!) to new things and people as early on as you can, so that you don't give yourself any opportunity to talk yourself out of making the effort. In my life, this has only led me to constantly putting things off to the point where I have, in the past, convinced myself nothing is really worth the possibility of being overwhelmed in an environment where I don't have complete control. Probably not of much use to you, but like you've said, look on this as a fresh start, a chance to get what you really want out of life. Welcome again.
