a vermont judge gave a sexual predator 60 days in jail for raping a child for four years. he says he no longer believes in punishment
is this just - no in most states it is a minimum of 25 to life the sentesncing should fit the crime at least in duration which would be four years
is this a cause for concern? yes
is this a cause for impeachment? yes

Maybe I really believe in strong punishments. Rape is a serious thing that really needs more punishment behind it. But maybe thats because of personal experiences.

60 days doesn't seem much for rape, but I don't agree with very long prison sentences either, unless the individuals are dangerous to society. If there's reason to believe he isn't that dangerous, as the article suggests, rehabiliation is a better course of action, than long-term detention.

LinkThe judge increased the sentence to 3-10 years. Looking beyond the fact that that's the sentence he should've got in the first place, is it really OK to extend a sentence like this? Isn't that a wee bit like double jeopardy?

Agreed, just take whatever measures necessary to prevent it from happenning again.
