From the article: "These sites are horrific," says Lauren Solotar
if what the article says is accurate I'd agree entirely with that statement

Heres another article that includes an interview with a sufferer of bulimia... Pro-AnaAnd heres a guestbook from such a website as the articles describe Guestbook I don't know about anyone else... but this made me feel horrified and very uneasy.

It is sick and disturbing. I have mixed feelings about people even writing articles about this stuff as I wonder if some people would be influenced to do this from going to the sites and seeing how it is glorified. OTOH, I suppose if someone was going to do it,they would seek out those sites anyway.

Yeah, reading about it is making me feel sick... makes me think of all the young impressionable teenage girls that are out there, feeling inadequate and stumbling across these sites and seeing the eating disorders as a life choice rather than what they are.

Looks like they turned it into a cult...'the Cult of Mia'. That's pretty much the point where I run out of sympathy for these people.

Unless you've been in the mindset that a lot of the girls on the websites are in, I don't think you can understand. I'm NOT saying these websites are a good thing in any way at all. It makes me feel so sad to see them. But it also makes me sad that people seem to be judging them so harshly.

I disagree these websites deserve to be treated harshly for what they're doing I'd hate to think they were stopping someone from getting the help they need. I just hope they stop before they get too common, although luckily at the moment there are still more helpful support groups out there. I totally see your point. These sites do make it seem ok/safe/normal, which isn't true and probably does stop some girls from seeking help.

I dont think people are judging the girls themselves harshly here, I think that given the nature of the condition(as is my understanding anyway) that its understandable how this mindset can arise. I am just judging how horrific it is that the people on these sites are potentially aiding each other to kill themselves.

I seen this on a show. I think it was Pat Chroche moving in. A woman was talking online and found someone who told her to go to a starvation website. Anyways it was real disturbing how she put her family through that. I dont see how anyone could do that to themselves. I think that pro Ana site was the one she went to.

These websites are very disturbing. I mean, I can relate to what these girls are going through because I suffered from both anorexia and bulimia myself, for years,. It completely takes over your life-, for me at least I came to a point where I knew I had a problem but it's very, very hard to get out of. You can't just tell these girls to eat, any more than people could tell any one of us to just get over it and stop being so shy. It goes way deeper than that. STILL I agree with Tal creating a website that actually encourages this is where I draw the line feeling much sympathy for them. Most of them anyway. It's a deadly disorder and not to be taken lightly. I guaratee you they have no idea just how much damage they're doing to their bodies and if they do they just dont' care and it's going to hit them like a ton of bricks when they're 30 and find out they can never have children (not the case here, thank god). These websites are horrible because it actually discourages the girls from gettig help by saying that doing so would be weak.

Those sites should be illegal and people should be put in prison for making them. I know it's harsh but that's how strongly I feel. They're only re-inforcing people's problems. Like pro suicide websites. I've found a pro-suicide website before when I was already thinking about it. The results weren't pretty.
