I have a feeling no one will care about this...but I must say...while not much has been lifting my spirits whatsoever...I watched "The Sound of Music" (performed live with Carrie Underwood as Maria Von Trapp) the other night when it aired, and thoroughly enjoyed it. (I wasn't that excited about it initially, since I was expecting it to bomb for some reason.) I was a little disappointed it didn't follow the movie completely, but I still thought it was completely fantastic. Especially great since I'm in a location that doesn't have culture or any great entertainment. Oh, how talented people amaze me...and even make a tiny bit of my heart happy, for a time. The song "My Favorite Things" made the tears well up. And the line I remember most of all was something like..."You can't use the Abbey to escape life!" aha No no, I watched it too. It was pretty good. And Underwood definitely makes a good Maria. But I don't understand why they needed a black nun. That wasn't very authentic for the time period and place.

Well, damn, Russ. :/ That really didn't even occur to me...
I just kept thinking..."SHE HAS SUCH AN AMAZING VOICE!!!" I was blown away.
I think it would've been a shame if she didn't get the role just because of her skin color. I can see where you are coming from, but race isn't really directly brought up in the film, so I don't think it took away from it, personally. Then again, I'm also not a die-hard history buff or anything. And I was more a fan of the music.
To be quite honest, I'm kind of glad to realize that I didn't even notice it (with the exception of now remembering I was reminded of the movie Sister Act--but that had more to do with general convent/singing nuns). With each generation, we're getting more oblivious to people's skin color...which is a really great way to look at it, I think.

The Sound of Music is based on a true story, and I very much doubt that black nuns were in charge of Austrian abbeys in the 1930s, and even if there were any in Austria then. No, it seemed like NBC was making a concious effort to be racially sensitive as there were no black actors in the original movie. Race isn't brought up in the story line at all, for that matter. The story is about political and class differences of the time period. Anyway, she was a good singer, I'm not discounting that. It just seemed very inacurate and transparent to me.

That wasn't my point mentioning the movie, but okay. hmm...I was going to say something, but there's probably not much point to it. Anyway, I wasn't fazed by it. And I don't think it's that big of a deal. I'm very much feeling like Sheldon when Indiana Jones got ruined for him.... I don't know why I bother mentioning anything really.

I've recently started to watch Merlin ( the TV show ) and I've been enjoying it quite a lot, it's got the right mix of things I enjoy and it's even quite funny at times ( I'm starting to think I have a thing for British humor which is kind of ironic given that I'm French ). I'm nearing the end of season 2 and I've had the pleasant surprise of having Tywin Lannister appear in one of the episode playing the role of a witch finder/hunter, that was kind of a wtf moment for me .

Today I caught up on Marvel's Agents of Shield and Arrow! I'm enjoying Agents of Shield, I think it has a lot of potential despite the low reviews it has had so far. Hopefully it'll get more than one season. Arrow, currently on it's second, continues to entertain, and I love all the DC references. Apparently there will be a Flash Spin off series which I hope will be good.

I have very high criteria for a new TV show, and for me, Shield just doesn't meet any of them. I really can't stand it. I think it's too interconnected to the movies. They've had so many superhero movies come from that studio in recent years and I feel totally confused as to what is going on in Shield because I haven't seen any of the movies. It's also poorly written, directed, acted and the teleplay is awful. And it's hardly original because it's in the shadow of Smallville and Arrow, which is made by the people who made Smallville. The makers of Arrow had ten years to get it right. Shield has potential but I think it doesn't warrant another series. The money could be better spent.
Arrow, on the other hand, is brilliant. Original, dark, funny, well acted, well directed, well written, the cinematography is beautiful. I really think it's one of the most consistently good shows ever made. I do wonder if they'll stick to the five year plan, but I hope they don't, because it just gets better and better. The sheer influx of superheroes and villains in the second year beggars belief. There's a lot of money spent on it. And The Flash spin-off, a spin-off of a spin-off, sounds brilliant.
If you listen closely, in every episode in season two, a new particle accelerator being turned on is mentioned in the background in the news. I'm sure that has something to do with The Flash, who'll have an origin story in episode 19, no longer a backdoor pilot, and then a spin-off.
I'm loving Arrow. Not far behind in the UK. Five or six episodes, I think.

The Superman and Batman comics have both spawned quite a few movies themselves. I've never cared for Smallville; never quite understood it, for one thing.

I finally got caught up on Walking Dead. I get why so many people were freaking out over the last episode now. Now I'm catching up on Agents of Shield!

I wasn't able to watch the start of Walking Dead, or Arrow or Marvel Agents of Shield so i can't really follow it. I did get into Smallville but only got to season 5.
Currently watching Detective Conan.
