Do any of you musicians, songwriters, poets, singers, etc. visualize your creations before you start to physically create what you're working on.
I know I have a habit of doing it.
If I can't sleep, if I'm in that music or writing mood, I'll think of something to work on - maybe put a tune in my mind, either a well-known song I would like to try to sing (and hopefully try to improvise around the melody of); or a guitar series of chords to a song, etc. Or I'll think up poetry or song lyrics and try to form them in my mind. If I'm too lazy (which is mostly always the case because I'm too exhausted when I have difficulty sleeping!) to get up and start writing, I'll just lay there and try to memorize it, and hopefully try retain enough of it to write down on paper when I do get up the next day (or later in the am, which is mostly the case with insomniacs).
Also, if you want to treat this as part 2 - do any of you attempt to improvise around the melody of certain songs?
Lately, I've been "visualizing" the improvisation of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". I really like this song. Of course - being the dreamer I am - that is "par for the course", ;Dha ha.

I'm not sure if I'm a person who should be answering this or not...but oh, well.... I do a whole lot of visualizing. Just not a whole lot of actually creating. Turning my thoughts into pieces of art is kind of difficult for me. I know it takes me a lot of time to create things, so I don't allow myself to do it really. I feel I have too many other things I should be doing and feel guilty for doing something just for the heck of it..at least for the time being (with school and work). Plus general laziness on my part, I think. Still, I think about it quite a bit.

I rarely do. I just go with the flow. I also sometimes just add in a random note. Then turn it into a chord. But I'm too lazy to finish the song(instrumental) It really woks, try it yourself.

When I saw the title to this, I thought that it would be about experiencing music visually in your mind - something I tend to do a lot haha. I definitely know what you're talking about though. The things that bothers me is that I find it hard to translate what I make in my head to something material. Sometimes I get those moments when I'm in the shower and I think up some great lyrics or music, but then I forget it as soon as I get out. Argh! So annoying. I love Somewhere Over the Rainbow too Has anyone hear Eva Cassidy's version of the song? Wow.

Crimeclub, unfortunately, I do not have a video camera or anything to put my music or songs online; but if you would like to read some of my lol songs, they are on here in the creative expressions under "alwaysalone"; "audioalone"; and "audio". Thank you for your interest .

I've had that experience too, similar to what you described, tho' mostly, like I said, when I'm laying down, lol! It is very annoying/frustrating. Yes, I've heard Eva Cassidy's version of Rainbow. Now that I know somebody else likes her music, I will try to post some in the "what are you listening to now" thread .

But I'm too lazy to finish the song(instrumental) It really woks, try it yourself. sometimes I do that too Juan. In fact, there's a tune in my head lately, mostly classical, but I'm too lazy/fatigued to go to work and try it out on the keyboard and see if I can develop it. It's something like this: classical piece in D (my own musical interpretation of cats playing): (just the melody/right hand notes so far) F#/F#/G/A/F#/E/F#/E E/E/F#/G/E/D/F#/D (repeat) I know they are just the notes, but that's the best I can do right now as I play mostly by ear. It's a fast clasical type piano piece I think it would be in 2/4 time, but I'm not sure (I've never been classically music trained - it's all just by ear in my head). All I can say is the second and third notes in each line are 8th notes; the rest are quarter notes. That's the best I can figure out from my head-music at the moment . and this - what I just did - is what old audio meant (means) by "visualization"; but it's just my own way of visualizing. I "visualize" or - pardon-the pun "audio-ize" by "hearing" the notes in my brain. Key of D, note F - sharp to start, of course in my little ha ha tune. (Don't mind me, I'm ::)rambling again, lol!!! - I tend to do that when I'm talking abou something I'm interested in ;D)
