I'm curious about how many people on here believe they are just naturally shy, or were formed that way as a result of certain treatment from others such as teasing or taunting.

For me at least i think its more the natural shy part. Ofcourse, it seems to combine with how i was treated later on in life. An initially shy person (temperament of behavioural inhibition) placed in an anxiety causing situation like being teased or taunted will have that shyness reinforce. Which makes them more shy the next situation they enter into, and so on and so on... I think that's how its worked out for me at least,
so my answer is first the natural part, then the environment you enter into. ;p

I have been shy for as long as I remember and I always have thought I was just naturally shy. I think being and only child has a lot to do with how shy I was as a kid. I've become a lot worse though since growing up I was kinda bullied, it really knocked my confidence. So I'd say a bit of both. I reckon even if I grew up without the bad times I would still be shy and I probably always will be shy.

I believe I'm naturally shy. I've asked my dad about it, and he, too, was shy when he was younger. so I guess this could be a genetic thing? But the thing is, my dad was able to grow out of his shyness (possibly because he majored in psychology). Now, he has absolutely no trouble talking to random strangers. I figure that if he could beat his shyness, then i guess i have the potential, too.
