I don't know if this is a debate, but I wanted to react to the US government's new symbol of nutrition: This is just the usual message: Eat grains, vegetables, fruits, protein, and dairy. With some small portion differences. But does this really help anyone? I have a much better diagram: Why is the government so afraid to say this? Don't worry so much about measuring out vegetables vs fruits, meat vs grains, whether or not to add dairy, or even if your food is high or low in fat. Eat real food. No overprocessed flour, no monoglycerides, no high fructose corn syrup. Just food. From nature, the way nature made it. There are cultures that are healthy on a largely animal-based diet, there are cultures that are healthy on a largely grain-based diet, there are cultures that are healthy on a largely fruits and vegetables based diet. Diabetes and cancer are extremely rare in all of them. It's modern diets that process all of the nutrition out of food that are the problem. It's so basic, but it's real food that needs to be the guideline.

I agree on some of your points. I don't think it matters what food groups you eat.

I don't think I can do that. I guess it's more of a goal to strive for, kind of like the USDA's goal that you eat 18% of your meals as fruit, 24% as grains, etc.

why won't the government say it? because there is big money in producing garbage for people to eat.
