Hi!
My name is Alex. I'm from Los Angeles. I'm glad that I found this forum. I was just searching online and found it by accident. It is good to know that I am not alone. I have struggled with shyness since as early as I can remember. I think it comes from growing up as an only child and having to move every three years (my Dad was in the Air Force).
Making new friends has always been tough for me and I found myself to be quiet and awkward in social situations. I've worked a lot on being more social especially when it comes to meeting women. I've learned to just push through the nervousness and talk.
Also, one of the hardest things for me to do is public speaking. I have such a hard time with it. I try to avoid it as much as possible. If I know I have to speak I worry about it for weeks. Doing impromptu speeches are also very nerve racking. Anyways, I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know everybody. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Hey Alex, Welcome to SU! ;D I had to move every three years growing up as well (my dad was in the Navy). It's pretty tough being shy and having to constantly try to make new friends. I was never very good at it either. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum!

I hope I can remember them all, I have a terrible memory most of the time... Jacksonville, Florida (where I was born) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Angleton, Texas Naples, Italy Sigonella, Sicily (which if I remember correctly had three military bases on it, we lived on the economy the first two years, and on one of the bases the last year) Fallbrook, California San Clemente, California Deer Park, Texas .... shortly after we moved to Deer Park, when I was 21, I moved out of my parents house. What about you? What places have you lived?

Wow, you have been all over the place from the East Coast to the West Coast. I'm jealous you got to live in Italy twice! I was born in Virginia then South Korea Champaign, Illinois Fort Walton Beach, Florida (my favorite place) Biloxi, Mississippi O'fallon, Illinois Then I went off to college. Out of all the places you lived, which one was your favorite place?

Hmm.... good question. Sicily and Italy were the most beautiful places I've ever lived. Lots of interesting places to visit and stunning places to go hiking or for picnics. But I'll be honest and say, my favorite place is where I live now, in Pasadena Texas, not because its particularly beautiful, (its not.... plus the weather sucks) but I am happier here than I ever was living at home. I thought the weather in Southern California was the best of any place I've lived, but I didn't care much for the culture. Speaking of which, how are you finding living in Los Angeles? Maybe its better living there if you're not an awkward teenager. So, same question back at you ;D favorite place?

Yeah, happiness is very important. Yes, the weather here in LA is perfect almost every day. I have lived out here for two years and I think they have been the most productive as far as work that I have ever had. January and February in a cold climate can really put me down in the dumps. As far as people, I have noticed alot of weirdoes out here especially as you get closer to Hollywood. There are pockets of good people, you just have to find them. I do notice overall that LA is not as friendly as other places I have lived. Maybe it's just a big city thing and not location. What didn't you like about the culture when you lived here? I would have to say that Ft. Walton Beach, Florida was by far my favorite place. I really like to fish and living on the Gulf coast with the White sand beaches and blue green water was the perfect place for me. I have alot of good memories there, I was there in late elementary school and middle school. The "Wonder years".

I definitely miss that California weather I think what I didn't like about living in Southern California was, as you mentioned, that the people weren't (for the most part) friendly. I was shocked when i moved to Texas, how nice everyone was. Another thing that got me down about living there was the ...... attitude of a lot of the people I knew. I'm trying to think of a way to explain it.... often times I got the impression that people were desperately trying to 'out-cool' one another, that everyone was trying to be the one who cared least about anything, who looked the hottest, and who had the nicest car/house/job, etc. But, to be fair, I lived there as a teenager, so I'm sure my views were skewed by the age group that I spent the most time around. Also, one of the most down to earth, funniest girls I was (and am) friends with, I met when i lived there. So, you're right, there are good people as well. Hopefully you've found lots of them!

I think you hit the nail on the head with the people trying to 'out cool' one another out here. When I lived in the South people actually said good morning and hello to each other when in public. Not as much out here. Hey, is your avatar a Helium -3 atom?

I just looked it up, and it seemed like Helium-3 only has 2 electrons, so I suppose my avatar can only be called 'random atom' .....of course I could be wrong about that.... I picked it mainly because I liked it

Yeah, it's really cool. It's been awhile since I took chemistry, maybe it's a Helium-3 negitive ion.
