Any shy people out there should definitely go out and see this movie. It is about a guy who is extremely shy and depressed, and it goes deep into why he is. I could relate to the main character in many ways, he finds it hard to talk to people and make eye contact. He also has trouble being in relationships and putting the past behind him. With Jim Carrey playing the main character you would think that it is a stupid comedy, when in actual fact it is a thought-provoking look at life.

I've just done a check and I don't think it is out to rent yet, but it is out very soon. I went to see it at the cinema and I thought it was great. If you want more information you can look here: - www.imdb.com/title/tt0338013/

I just saw this one and it really was good. The main character is definitely shy and introverted, no doubt about it. Very interesting twists in the plot.

okay, i rented this one tonight and i hated it. without exception i despised every single character in it and couldn't wait for it to end. but on the plus side, i don't feel nearly so dysfunctional now. Welcome to the world of Bret Easton Ellis.

I LOVE Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind!!! (see icon) It is not for anyone with a short attention span because you have to really pay attention to everything that is happening, but it is excellent. It was so nice to see Jim Carrey in a role that is so unlike him and Kate Winslet in a role so unlike her. My only complaint is Elijah Wood. I cannot stand him. I guess we aren't suppose to like him since he is the antagonist of the movie. Highly reccomended. Great movie. Now I want to watch it... ~infiniteabyss

Disliked it also. C'mon WTF is with brain erasing BS, they should have left that out and just made it about shy guy falls in love and girl betrays him or something and he murders her. The whole science fiction thing just seemed so unnecessary. Reminded me of the butterfly effect for some reason; I don't watch many movies.

Its fair enough if you don't like it but please don't go posting spoilers on a thread which is about a recommendation to watch a film that many people haven't seen!

That's not a spoiler. That didn't happen. It was just someone saying what they thought should have happened.

Rules of Attraction was a particular favourite of mine for a time. There aren't many likeable (in the traditional sense) characters, but the guy's f*ck you rant at his mother at the dinner table cracks me up. It can be a bit of style over substance at points, but the split screen shot between James van der Beek and Shannyn Sossaman (sp?) is another great bit. Maybe not wholly original, but great nonetheless. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I want to see this too. One of those films you hear people rave about, but never get round to actually seeing. Kate Winslet is gorgeous, as good a reason as any to watch it For some reason when people mentioned this film, it reminded me of Amelie. A film I didn't catch at the cinema, but once I'd seen it on DVD I absolutely fell in love with it. Audrey Tautou plays a shy/timid girl who retreats into her own fantasy world, and ends up helping others in need without their knowledge of her doing so. I've loved every film Jean-Pierre Jeunet has made so far, can't wait to see how 'A Very Long Engagement' will turn out.

I didn't like Amelie, I just don't know why and I really thought I was going to like it, I just couldn't connect with the girl. She did seem shy with the guy she liked, but with others she was just a normal extrovert. Now, Eternal Sunshine of the spotless Mind, thats one that really touched me, maybe because the main character was a guy? But I loved it, Jim Carrey was awesome. I saw Rules of Attraction and I didn't like it. It was filthy and disturbing. I was shocked that we got to see that lonely/nerdy girl slit her wristsw in the bath .
