i've been reading Distancing: Avoidant Personality Disorder by Martin Kantor. it's a very interesting book which describes alot of avoidant behavior therapists have encountered during therapy. it also has descriptions of treatment approaches that are employed with avoidant people. i found it particularly interesting to learn about the things that work with other people that don't work well at all with avoidant people. i felt this book was a good general introduction to avoidance, and offered some helpful tips on how to deal with it when you encounter it, not just in therapeutic settings, but life in general. it also has a section with ideas on how to deal with and change one's own avoidant behavior. i think it's a useful book, not just for therapists, but for anyone who is simply interested in avoidant behavior or dealing with it themselves in their own lives. it was also written in such a way that i think most people could get something out of it. in particular, i think reading it can help one identify one's own avoidant behavior. i certainly saw myself in there a few times.

I just finished reading "Sum Forty Tales of the Afterlives" by David Eagleman. One of the best books ive read in a long time. I loved every page of it.

Does anyone like Jean Rhys? I love 'GoodMorning, Midnight', it must be one of the best representations of social isolation and beautifully written. And Carson Mccullers for similar reasons. Also kafka's diaries and letters are fantastic for that "well maybe i'm not so insecure after all" feeling. But at the moment it's my final university exams so i can't let myself read anything i'd actually enjoy for another week.
