I've been reading "The Last of the Mohicans" by James Fenimore Cooper..
It's a very good book but it's a little hard to follow sometimes -the terminology of the time the book was written (1820's) is very dated. Sometimes i have to stop to interepret what the author is trying to tell me about this or that event. I read constantly but my choice of books seldom include those written that long ago.
I decided to buy the book after watch the movie on Hbo the other day. I've never seen a movie that strayed so far from the book.

One of my favourites is Modoc. It's about an elephant and his keeper and they are more like best friends. Supposedly based on a true story, about an elephant's adventurous journey from Germany through India all the way to California.
It's quite popular. It's an entertaining read, especially if you're fond of animals. The one picture that flashes in my mind when I think about this book is of an elephant floating in the middle of the Indian Ocean with a boy sitting on it holding its trunk above the water.
Another book I read recently is The Life of Pi, which is also very popular.

A classic that's fun to read and actually useful for a shy person. There is a lot of introspection of non-shy people into socializing.

The last 3 books I read-
"Treasure Island" by Robert Louis Stevenson - Fairly good.
"The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" - by Tom Wolfe - Weird, but good.
"Florence of Arabia" - Not up to par as some of Christopher Buckley's other works.

Recently (as in the last few months) I've read:
His dark materials, which was ok but got a bit boring for me in the end.
Darth Bane: Rule of two, which was awesome so i hope there will be a third book in that series.
Aliens: DNA War, which I thought was kinda cool.
I'm Currently reading Anansi Boys.
(Post 1000 ;D Woooo!)

I tried to read Eragon, didn't like it too much. Movie novelizations are kind of a guilty pleasure for me, too. After reading this review of the ET one, I think it might be worth a read. www.mutantreviewers.com/rnovelizations2.html

I just finished the book Reading Lolita in Tehran, by Azar Nafisi. It was kind of intense, but very good. It's about a woman who secretly teaches a group of girls (many of them shy) books that are forbidden in the Islamic Republic of Tehran.
I also recently read, Where the Heart Is, by Billie Letts, which is one of my favorate books. It's about a pregnant girl who gets stranded at a Walmart, and eventually gets taken in by people in the area. I found it to be original and refreshing.

I think there was a movie adaptation of that book a few years ago with Natalie Portman in it.
