Watched the Matrix trilogy on tv this week. Have seen the first film before, which made Reloaded and Revolutions all the more disappointing. Great special effects, but an awful meandering plot which completely falls apart by the end.
The first movie still blew Star Wars: The Phantom Menace away when they came out at roughly the same time tho. ;D

watched the matrix this week. The first ones really good, 2nd one i hate, it kind of gets alright again in the 3rd one, but there's something really cool about the 3rd one that the rest are just missing.
I've seen american dreams this week as well. Kinda funny, but it could have been better, it's trying to be a really biting satire, but it's a bit tame, doesn't quite make it.
I saw take the lead last week, i really liked that, cheesy but really sweet.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World: OK, but considering the reviews, I expected to be drawn in more than I was. Maybe it was one that had to be seen on the big screen. Subtitles would have helped.
Lilo and Stitch: Not bad, but Disney is no Pixar.
Hustle and Flow: Good flick! Even a pimp has dreams!

I watched Velvet Goldmine today, it was great!! Great great great great music, great performances (Jonathan Rhys Meyers Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale) and great story thats based on a David Bowie bio, Rhys Meyers playing the Bowie-esque character. **** stars I watched The Life Aquatic again last night. Its not my favorite Wes Anderson film, Rushmore being my favorite. I still like it though for Wes Anderson's for his great directing style. The performances are almost too flat and there are to many recognizable faces. Thats what was great about Rushmore, the only actor that anyone really knew about was Bill Murray, now it seems like every actor are appearing in his films, which is getting a bit distracting. The guy who appears every once in a while singing David Bowie songs in Portugese is pretty awesome. Ok I talked enough about this one, hehe. Movies on deck: *Everything Is Illuminated *Into the Arms of Strangers ~i.a.

Thank You For Smoking: Funny! A comedy with intelligence and social relevance.
After Life: Very good, in a low key way. The mix of philosophical themes and the freshness and immediacy of the characters reminds me of Ingmar Bergman's films. Shy people may enjoy a more recent Kore-eda film, Nobody Knows.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Da Vinci Code, even though it got bad ratings.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Da Vinci Code, even though it got bad ratings. i read the book. it was entertaining and fun to read, but people take it way too seriously. it's a FICTIONAL NOVEL!!! people think that just because opus dei and the priory of sion (um, not entirely sure of spellings there) really exist that the whole book must be real. it's called HISTORICAL FICTION. anyways, i hear the movie really went by the book.

Whisper of the Heart – Good. It's a serious, character-driven, coming-of-age story that just happens to be animated. Not exciting enough for children (or many American adults). An art house film.
Get Shorty – Fun fluff.
Princess Mononoke – One of my all-time favorites. This was my first time watching the subtitled version with Japanese voices. I didn't notice much of a difference, except for the voice of Moro, the mother wolf-god, whose Japanese voice was clearly a man's. Anyway, I'd pick this one over Spirited Away as Miyazaki's best. It has an ensemble of complex main characters, whose viewpoints cannot be pigeonholed as completely good or completely evil. The struggle is epic, and every moment of the film has something of value – excitement, beauty, humor, or novelty.

I saw Everything is Illuminated the other day. It was quite good. I thought the characters were pretty well developed. The actor who played Elijah Wood's translator was great, I never saw him in anything before, we was definately the highlight of the movie.
I also saw The Producers. It was much better than I thought it was going to be, maybe because I went into this with zero expectations, or maybe because I really love musicals.
