Stephen Chow movies are really funny. Are there any more of his movies you can recommend? Speaking of funny movies, man i really need to watch more of those. One particular movie that i remember laughing my heart out was "THE MILLERS". It kinda touches on some particular lonely feelings i can relate to, but as the movie goes on it becomes this totally laugh out loud kinda movie with some touching moments on the side. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a really funny movie. But then again, there are reviews out there that are negative to say the least. Maybe my sense of humor is a little different. I dunno, but i really enjoyed it and i'm going to watch it again.

There's one I could indeed recommend you to watch if you haven't already, that is CJ7 ( Cheung Gong 7 hou in Cantonese ), while it's definitely not as good as those other movies we've both enjoyed I found it to be kind of a sweet story about a kid and his pet ( I won't say more since otherwise I'd be spoiling it for you )

Last night I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier- So much awesome! The best Phase 2 movie so far. I've been meaning to see that. Lately I saw "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete." It was very depressing and disheartening movie to watch, based on ghetto life and the rough streets.

Yeah, it was nice but not as good compared to those two movies. I was able to watch them over and over a couple of times. About Captain America: Winter Soldier, i wasn't really too impressed with the trailer... but from what i heard....maybe i'll give it a shot this coming weekend.

- Gattaca
What a beautiful movie this was, it's been quite a while since I've felt this emotionally engaged in a story. Despite coming out in 1997, the ethical questions raised by this film are still very relevant nowadays in my opinion.

The Artist
Man, I forgot how much I missed tap dancing in movies...
Always wanted to see this.
Honestly, and rather fittingly, there's not a great deal to say. I went into it with trepidation, but within ten minutes, I fell in love with the movie. Like the first time I saw a foreign film, you become so engrossed you forget that it's foreign, with subtitles. And here, you forget nobody is talking.
It is faultless. One of the greatest movies ever made.
I was blown away. The acting was superb, the direction was beautiful, and despite them using modern cameras, it felt brilliantly authentic. I don't know how they managed it, maybe a filter, I'm not sure. I'm not knowledgable on silent movies, but to me, it felt as close as is humanly possible for a movie to be nowadays to the original silent films.
I'm just staggered. Almost lost for words. Such a great film. Honestly, definitely one to see before you die. Even if it's not your thing, force yourself to watch it. It has such a wonderfully endearing charm. I'm seriously impressed.
I'm still tingling, it's had such a massive effect on me.
Wowza.
A billion out of 10.
Certainly want more silent movies made...

Monsters
Not bad. Not bad at all.
Not sold on the sequel out this year, though.

Love
A brilliant, in-depth exploration of isolation, love, sanity (or lack thereof), and psychology.
Once described as '2001 done in Kubrick's back yard', it's a wonderful low budget ($500,000) movie. I honestly believe, along with District 9, Moon and Monsters, it completes a recent foursome of some of the greatest science fiction movies ever made.
In much the same way as Monsters (same budget, first time director), the director has a second movie out this year. If this is anything to go by, might be a treat.
I was very impressed. Certainly strongly linked to 2001 and Moon, especially visually. Great performance and music by the same band throughout. Really leaves a strange taste on your tongue. By the end, you can't help but wonder if you've just watched a movie or have just had an acid trip. Wonderfully psychedelically weird.
A captivating movie from 2011.
Highly recommended.
10/10.

Me again. Sorry. I've been busy today...
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
And that's why we shouldn't experiment on monkeys.
What can you say? Bloody hell, it was better than the original four combined. And the 2001 remake. Mind you, my worn underwear is more attractive than that one.
I genuinely can't wait for the sequel. I mean, they said they want a franchise of about four or five movies, and if they're to this standard, I say bring it on.
It works much better in chronological order.
I know this movie passed a lot of people by as they didn't want a remake, but it's really worth checking out.
Still can't understand why a gorilla would take orders from a chimp, but there we are. I haven't seen the original in a long time, and none of the sequels. It might be explained later, it was just bugging me, is all.
I wonder if I was I the only one rooting for the monkeys...

I'm on a roll, baby. You see, this is what happens when The Daily Show takes a week-long break... Another EarthYou see, this is a properly brilliant independent movie. Made for only £8mil yet it feels triple that. When you have such a small budget. The quality of the content jumps out at you, like they've increased the quality of the script to overshadow any budgetary issues. Not that there were any, it was amazing what they achieved on such a small budget for a movie. It came out in 2011. I know a lot of people avoided this movie because it got some nasty reviews. But it is worth remembering, that the vast majority of those reviews were from Hollywood types who want a million explosions and resolution. They can't understand that there's another way. So ignore them, would be my message. Basically, in Another Earth, a twin Earth appears in the sky. So distracted by it and drink, a young girl, brilliantly acted, causes a horrific car crash and the movie follows her story and her attempt at redemption with the only survivor. Two fantastic leads in this. Really captivating. The other Earth is more of a metaphor, if anything. It only crops up now and again and never really takes centre stage, certainly not until the last half hour. It's not a spoiler to say that will only half an hour left, and being independent, the story doesn't necessarily go where you're expecting it to go, because it isn't another Hollywood blockbuster. The fact that no questions are answered, actually, makes it better. You're left to make your own answers, to ponder what you've seen. It works because it's 'anti-Hollywood'. The director has another movie out this year and it wouldn't surprise me if it's equally as brilliant. It's his second major feature, third overall. A talented man, certainly. If you want an alternative barely sci-fi movie, ignore he detractors and give it a go. Don't think too much, just enjoy it. It's barely sci-fi, more a drama with sci-fi in the background, but it is sumptuous. 10/10.
My next one to see came out last year and is about that alien girl seducing Scotsmen. It looks good...

Atonement, as with the book I did'nt like it. Hate all the characters, don't find the plot very interesting either.

I promise, last one. For a week. A day, tops. A few hours, maybe. Or not.
Olympus Has Fallen
Welcome to the new Die Hard. It's not as good, obviously. Well, better than Die Hard 5. But so was Bambi. I actually had the same feelings watching Die Hard 1 as I did to this. It's just a raw adrenalin rush. Don't get me wrong though, it's ridiculously violent. Hundreds of highly graphic bloody deaths every minute, the swearing is OTT, and some of the dialogue can get incredibly cliché ("I'm gonna stick a knife in your brain'") but it's that B-movie element that makes it brilliant. Slither wasn't the best but it was simultaneously brilliant. You enjoy it because you're on a crazy ride.
I think if you're up for a bit of OTT ridiculously violent totally pointless gratuitous action flick, can't go wrong with a bit of Olympus.
It came out in the same year as White House Down, which was God-awful and best avoided. But Olympus has a lot going for it. It's not an intellectual jaunt, it's a good old-fashioned shoot 'em up, with brilliant direction, really tense and captivating, wonderful acting chops throughout, and amazing visuals.
They're making a sequel with some of the same cast and the same central lead, just like Die Hard. It could become quite the franchise. The sequel is set in London. Named 'London Has Fallen'. Really looking forward to that one. Really, really looking forward to that. Far too much, probably.
What's third? Paris is my bet.
I'd check out Olympus Has Fallen if I were you, if you fancy an action flick and nothing too intellectual. Not a bad movie. I'll give it 9/10 because I've already given London Has Fallen 10/10.

Just saw Godzilla. Too much poorly executed story and weirdly inserted children, and not enough monster. The Japanese guy came across as an overdramatic fortune cookie*. Only props go to Cranston, but his role was too small. * credit to Farouche for that description
