I have a couple Ouija boards hanging around my house, infact theres a shit load of ghosty things as my step dad is a paranormal investigator. Personally I don't believe in the stuff. Hasbro have even brought an Ouija board game out for kids: Caused a lot of controversy.

I've never used a Ouija board before, nor do I attempt to contact spirits. I don't even think about contacting spirits or demons in Church when I pray along with the other parishoners. Perhaps we're supposed to pray to the angels/spirits/whatever, but for me it was always just going through the motions. I pray at them, and not to them. Even so, I don't think praying or contacting spriits of any kind is so practical or beneficial. All of these things exist in our minds, not physically. When God created Man in his own image, this means he did so according to his ephemeral nature, not a physical one. As such, the human mind can percieve these spirits or ephemeral entities through our imaginations. But they don't exist physically. The posessed person through evil demons believes they are possessed, and act in like manner because they believe it, not because they have physical demons running through their heads.

Ideomotor action offers a pretty good explanation of how Ouija boards can seem to work, assuming that neither player is consciously trying to freak out their friend, lol. I used to fool around with the Ouija board as a kid with a friend and it always moved for him. Like you say, I was sure he was just trying to mess with me! I don't know why, maybe it was just because of the way it moved so unhesitatingly, his expression or manner, etc.. It used to make me really mad even though he insisted that he was not doing it consciously. I guess that's the problem with it, you never know whether the other person is faking it or not (no jokes about sex LOL)!

This is basicly me warning people about this board. Personally I've heard two stories, two atheists, who either had bad experiences or watched other people have them with these boards. These boards are basiclly "contacting spirits on the other side" or whatever brand they brand it under, but it's very dangerous, because you never know with what kind of spirit on the other side are you dealing with. Personally I'd avoid any kind of "contacting spirits on the other side". And these boards are, of course, nutorious for scaring people. People think it's all fun and games until they get a sneak preview of hell. thanks for the warning about these kinds of thingies. I myself don't go around experimenting on those kinds of stuff. That's black magic and witchcraft which will not do you any good.

Very interesting thing, this Ouija boards. A big load of opinions and experiences of every kind can be found hereAs for me, I just see it as an item created by men, so nothing supernatural in my opinion. Kinda like the Necronomicon, who is seen as a magical object by some people, while others just see it as a interesting and fun literature. A rather believe in placebo and paranoia... people who have believed, that they were cursed or haunted, actually went that far in believing that their mind tricked them. It's not that I don't believe that the "supernatural" is possible, but I do believe that the power of the mind over us sure is great. It may be possible that ghost stories are true, but I in my opinion this chance is rather small (small sure doesn't mean impossible^^) However, I would say that electronic or toy Ouija boards can be assumed to be harmless. Real Ouija boards are rather made with hand work and maybe even enchanted in some way ( burned with sacrifices or offerings, inscribed with runes, bathed in or inked with blood)

Well I perhaps partly believe in the paranormal having personally had or heard of many strange unexplained experiences over the years, the same as some others no doubt. One thing I have heard though but don't really believe is that those occasional nightmares where you feel pinned down and have to violently shake to wake up, are caused by supernatural forces. Suspect it's far more just muscle paralysis or something. Equally while some ghosts may be real, couldn't electromagnetic energy or similar in the air also sometimes falsely create a spooky atmosphere as well? Anyway I agree with you that Ouija boards and any kind of trying to contact spirits is potentially far too dangerous really.
