...or what book have you recently read? I've just read the first two books in the Hunger Games series, which is pretty awesome. I'll probably start the final book tonight.

I'll probably start the final book tonight. i'm reading Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana by anne rice. i've always loved her writing and i'm really enjoying this book. it's the second in a series. the first was Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt which i also read and enjoyed. i've always admired this author's ability to create atmosphere in her work. she really brings the ancient people and places to life, giving a more accessible human context to the old Bible stories.

That's also on my list to try. I read the first of his Codex Alera books a while ago; it was quite good, but as is noted in many reviews the plot is as old and cliched as it gets. The Dresden Files books are apparently a lot better.

I tried the Codex Alera series and didn't like it much If you try the Dresden Files, I should warn you the first 2 books aren't that good, but after the third they are great, adventure, danger, all kinds of good stuff!

I finally finished reading Eon: Dragoneye Reborn. I started this book a year ago, but life got in the way blah blah. Anyway, the second book just came out, and it sounds cool so I got back to reading it. And I love it! The main character is a girl pretending to be a boy so that she can become a Dragoneye, an important person connected to one of the 12 celestial dragons (each one representing one of the 12 animals in the chinese zodiac.) Lots of cool eastern influences. I'm going to try and borrow the next book from work later today or tomorrow.

I haven't read any fiction in awhile. Last book I read was some chick lit thing. Anyone have any more reading suggestions? I like books that are funny.

I just finished Persian Fire by Tom Holland.
It's a pretty good historical account of the Persian invasions of Ancient Greece and how the Greek city states fought back and eventually defeated the invaders after several famous battles - Marathon, Thermopylae and Salamis.

(mini-review) I'm almost finished reading In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. I believe in eating natural food, so I'm all ready familiar with the ideas in the book. Pollan argues for tradition over nutritionism in determining what we should eat. You shouldn't eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't recognize as food (I would say avoid anything developed in the Industrial Age). This includes most food in the modern supermarket. Nutritionism, which evaluates food based on its component parts (like saturated fat, antioxidants) fails to treat food as the complex, whole systems that they are with nutrients working synergistically with each other. Nutritionism is to blame for the low-fat craze that caused so many replace fat with refined carbohydrates. Simply, we should eat the food our ancestors have been eating for thousands of years. What I like about the book is the way Pollan writes with such clarity, focusing on all of the important points and getting to the very heart of the issue. I highly recommend the book.
