I still don't understand why people call that movie one of the best of all time. I don't either. Citizen Kane is a very, very good movie, but hardly the best ever. For one, it's too short, and left me wanting much more. Watching superhyped movies like that is almost always disappointing, because no matter how good it is, it never lives up to expectations.

I heard that Hollywood changed a lot of that guy's story about his encounter. Anyway, my all time favorites are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They aren't perfect, the books are still way better, but the films are still excellent. I also like the Star Wars Trilogy, most of the Star Trek movies, X-Men, Platoon, Hellboy, Clerks, Mallrats, Jaws, Evil Dead Trilogy, Donnie Darko, and a whole lot more...

I love the Shawshank Redemption. Seems to be regarded pretty much as a cult classic these days.
Full Metal Jacket has me in stitches at times, but is also extremely harrowing. The combination of the two can kinda leave you emotionally drained after watching it the first time.
Other favs: Rear Window - I'm a Hitchcock and James Stewart nut, which is a source of complete bemusement to my friends.
Beautiful Girls - admittedly not a classic, but always sticks in my mind due to the relationship between the characters played by Natalie Portman and Timothy Hutton, it really does tug at the old heartstrings. Ahem, onto more manly things......
Rocky IV - I really would like to say this is a joke, but it ain't. Completely mindless, and all the better for it. Even though Ivan Drago should've beaten the crap out of Rocky.
Mystery Science Theatre 3000 - Never seen the tv show, but this film has had me crying with laughter on several occassions. A sure sign of madness. Or maybe of never growing up.

What do you think of David Lynch? (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks)
I like his work. He seems to focus on psychological issues instead of just straight narratives. Mulholland is one of my favorite movies. I just think its really clever not to mention very well acted. Naomi Watts shows amazing range.

Shaun of the Dead is absolutely hilarious. One of the best movies I've seen in quite some time. It's funny, but I think one of the best parts of it is its cinematography, very interesting camera work.

Here's an interesting movie, its called Maze.
Its about an artist (played by Rob Morrow), who has tourett's syndrome. He struggles socially like many of us. Even though he is not a shy character per se, I think many people here will be able to identify with his struggles. Its not the type of touretts where he blurts out profanities if you're worried about that - he just has some ticks and quirks that make socializing very hard for him.
Anyway he falls in love with a lady (played by Laura Linney) who is with a type A overachiever doctor. The plot unfolds from there. Good acting by all...great directing by Morrow. The plot line is typical hollywood, but its done well.

Hm, anything directed by Tarkovsky or Bergman. Always a thought-provoking masterpiece, unmatched in conveying emotions not merely narrating a passive story...
